MAHAYANA LANDOWNE

 

Mahayana Landowne is interested in radical self-expression and empowering others to believe in their own creativity.  She is a theater artist who works primarily as a director and dramaturg.  Yana builds imaginative and dynamic performative structures for collective dramatic visions that transcend daily life.  Recent Collaboration: Lush Valley (Here) Recently directed: Wisdom of Obscurity (Manhattan Theatre Source), Impossible Country (Mudbone), Baruch Voices (Baruch), Lemon Tree (Wild Project), This is Way Beyond my Remote Control (Wild Project), Fairytale Experiment (Rubulad), MIXED (Baruch), Picasso Project (Luna Stage), Blue. (Vital Theater), Carcass (Diaspora Drama), The Heiress (Roundtable Ensemble at the Mint), Machinal (U. of Rochester), and Terrible Infant (Fringe Festival).  Collaboratively created musicals include: Spring Bling, Summer in the Hummer, and The Dick Cheney Holiday Spectacular (Ace of Clubs), Western Unidad (Ice Factory Festival, Ohio Theater), Post-Code (American Living Room, HERE), Woman’s Voices of Union Square (Tenement Museum). Favorite past productions include The Skriker, Antony and Cleopatra, The Seagull, brass logic, Streetcar Named Desire, Obgynt, King Lear, and Mud.   Affiliations/ Fellowships include: Drama League 00’, Lincoln Center Director’s Lab 04, Directors Lab West 06, Woman’s Project, Second Stage, Playwrights Horizon’s Theater School, and NYC Dance Parade 2006-15 (founding board member). She is a Founding Artist of Calling All Parties and has been creating projects with the collective since 2010.  Yana holds a BFA in Acting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Directing from the Yale School of Drama.
